Art Therapy

Art Therapy offers people the opportunity to use art to express their experiences, explore emotions, develop self awareness and to access their inner lives without solely relying on words. Art Therapists are trained to sensitively attune to their clients in such a way that encourages them to find the hidden jewels within their creative expression. Maddy supports her clients through a range of creative processes, helping them to develop deeper understandings of themselves and more clarity in how they choose to live.

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creativity as a safe way to represent our inner experiences, develop awareness and support personal change. Art Therapy offers ways of engaging the mind, body, and spirit in support of working out what is hindering us from living more easeful lives.

Art Therapy holds the potential to uncover and reform the complexities of our lives. Often words are inadequate in revealing what sits within our subconscious, where creativity invites us to tap into the depths of our experiencing.

Being good or even interested in art is not at all relevant. We are not learning how to make art, nor are we refining our art-making skills. Art Therapy is beneficial to people of all ages from children right through to the elderly.

What happens in an Art Therapy session?

We will begin the session with a check-in, an opportunity for you to share as much or as little with me as you feel. From here, we will decipher where to begin, with a selection of quality art materials for your process.

You will have my full presence as you move through your creative process, and I will offer you invitations, observations and any necessary prompts to guide you along the way. There will be time at the end to reflect and share your findings and insights.

Making an appointment

Prior to your first session, I will arrange a time to have a short phone call with you (at no extra charge) to find out a little more about you and to answer any questions you may have.

I currently work in South Hobart on Wednesdays.

What people say...

'Maddy’s capacity for holding space, being present, and creating connection is such a gift.  Whether through embodied encounters in yoga, or in the contemplative spaces of art-making and meditation, I always feel completely welcomed and safe to arrive just as I am.  And every time, I find myself leaving lighter in step, clearer in intention, and so very open in heart.
